Asian drinks in their full glory…

Recently when India’s only Master Sommelier and a good friend @mr.kamalmalik visited us with his family along with Yann, a Slovak Sommelier colleague, we chose some Asian drinks to share with them. The idea was to enjoy these drinks while also getting their valuable insights.

The drinks were (L-R):
🎊
1. A Japanese wine from Yamanashi prefecture, made from the native Koshu grapes.
🥂
2. An Indian rum with a pure cane juice spirit blend from the Uttarakhand hills.
🥃
3. An unpeated and non-chill-filtered Indian Single malt whisky.
👌
4. A Yamahai Junmai Sake from the Saga prefecture
🍶
5. Kweichow Moutai- a famed Baijiu from Guizhou Maotai, China.
✌️
6. A Tea Sake liqueur from the Ishikawa prefecture.
🍸
All the above drinks shone bright with their unique characteristics and we unanimously agreed on the diversity and potential of Asian drinks that is waiting to be fully exploited.

It was exciting to uncap our first Sake for the year- a Limited Edition Gekkeikan Junmai Daiginjo exclusive to Duty Free Sales. The Sake was a gift brought in by Toshiki Yokobayashi san, GM International Department at Gekkeikan Sake.
With a Seimai Buai (milling rate) of 50% and alcohol content 16-17%, the sake was delicate and fruity with aromas of banana and melon and a pristine off-dry palate.
The occasion was fitting too, as we had @maayatakaoka as tasting company.

We received this special Junmai Ginjo sake in a can through Ms Sayuri Tani who arrived for a sake trade event in India. We tasted this "Ichi Go Can" with Amar Srivastava, a celebrated Craft Brewer from India.

Tasting Mikadomatsu Ke To Hare- a Junmai Ginjo sake in a can from Matsuoka Brewery in Saitama.

It was exciting to uncap our first Japanese Sake for the year- a Limited Edition Gekkeikan Junmai Daiginjo exclusive to Duty-Free Sales.
The Sake was a gift brought in by Mr. Toshiki Yokobayashi, GM International Department, and Mr. Yuichiro Mase, Export Area Manager at Gekkeikan Sake

Tasting Gekkeikan Junmai Daiginjo Limited Edition for Duty Free Sales.

Shiboritate, often referred to as "freshly pressed" sake, is a vibrant and youthful style celebrated for its lively character. I had the privilege of tasting Shiboritate at Nakagawa Brewery in Tottori Prefecture, renowned for its dedication to traditional brewing methods. This sake, drawn directly after pressing, bursts with bold, fruity aromas and a sharp, effervescent flavor. Its bright acidity and slightly unrefined edge make it distinct from aged or mellowed sake styles. The experience at Nakagawa Brewery was immersive, as the sake's freshness perfectly captured the essence of its craftsmanship, leaving a lasting impression of the region's rich brewing heritage.
